Previously an industrial warehouse, this spacious place is flourishing as The Grounds. Wholesome dishes are made using produce from the garden, the potting shed is used as a bar, and one of the resident pets is a pig named Kevin Bacon. There’s never a dull moment here. The striking steampunk décor is the backdrop for a large selection of modern coffee equipment, including filter machines, a shiny Synesso and a retro GS2. Beans are sourced from all over the world and one of the staff is the youngest to win the World Barista championship. The food doesn’t let the side down either. Pastries and breads come from the in-house bakery, which also serves as an open kitchen. The quinoa is used to great effect in both the crispy salads and desserts (look out for the hotcakes!). It can get busy here, especially at weekends, but it’s worth a visit.
