Bourke Street Bakery has evolved into a small chain but the charm of the first store is still unbeatable. Super small, with just three tables for two, it’s no wonder that the queue often stretches into the street. Daily lunch specials, such as pies and quiches, are listed on the blackboard. They're all good, but try the beef brisket pie if it’s on the menu. Best of all are the pastries, desserts and bread. Strawberry meringue tart, lemon tart, ginger brûlée tart, chocolate ganache cake... There’s something for everyone. As for the bread, there are no less than 16 types of sourdough alone. To top all that, the coffee is excellent, with beans from Aroma. Drinks have just the right balance of sweetness and acidity to complement everything else Bourke Street Bakery has to offer. So pop in, choose a dream pastry and take it to the nearby park along with a cup of coffee.
