This is Shenkin’s flagship venue and where the family business started to flourish. The founder, Arvi Haikin, is responsible for offering the best of Middle Eastern cuisine, while his sons look after the coffee. And they know what they’re doing! The beans are from Mecca with the Dark Horse blend used for milky drinks and El Salvador for black. The long black has an interesting aftertaste with a touch of sugar cane, which goes perfectly with Shenkin’s signature shakshuka – not your usual baked eggs but an Israeli version with tomatoes, eggplant and an unbeatable mix of spices. Every aspect of Shenkin is warm and vibrant, including the décor – complete with bicycle mural on the wall. The staff can get swept of their feet as the place gets so busy, but they still make time to chat to customers.
