The Single Origin Roasters team have been in business since 2003, and it’s almost impossible to imagine the third-wave coffee scene in Sydney without them. For more than a decade, their flagship store in Surry Hills has been serving carefully sourced single origins from all over the world. The beans on offer change every week, and tend to be fair trade and ethically grown – we enjoyed a strong fruity coffee from Rwanda. Regulars call this place ‘Single O’, and you may well join their ranks after tasting the coffee here. They also offer a beautifully created Reservoir house blend which is perfect for a latte. It’s not surprising that this awesome café gets busy, so you might have to queue or wait for a seat in the modest sized space decorated by artist Brett Chan. But it’s worth the trouble, because both the coffee and food are great. Try the kedgeree with quinoa or the banana bread with a twist – it’s served with delicious espresso peanut butter.
