Turkish coffee is a traditional coffee that dates back to the 16th century where it quickly became a cultural staple to Turkish life. Turkish coffee is a delicious, special cup of coffee that will leave you wanting more and more!

In this article, I’ll go over the ingredients and gear you’ll need to make this coffee. I also made a video that lays out the process and a Pinterest pin just in case you’d like to pin it for later!

What Is Turkish Coffee?

Turkish coffee is traditionally coffee that has been brewed in a cezve, a small metal pot that is heated over a flame. Fine ground coffee is directly added to water, it’s boiled, then served unfiltered. Since the coffee grounds are fine, they tend to settle at the bottom of the cup, which makes Turkish coffee a special delight.

What’s In Turkish Coffee?

Turkish coffee is made with:

  • Finely ground medium roast coffee
  • Sweetener (optional)

Regarding the coffee beans used, I like Peet’s Major Dickason’s for a lot of my coffee needs. But any freshly roasted beans work fine. I recommend going with a medium roast like Lifeboost, as we’re grinding the coffee to be pretty fine. A finely ground coffee gives it a lot of surface area and extraction (since we’re essentially cooking it twice) and a medium roast will help prevent bitterness.

Regarding adding any sweetener, it is traditionally added in during the brewing process. Not afterwards. This makes for a much more uniform flavor, and keeps Turkish coffee feeling fresh!

How To Make Turkish Coffee Without an Ibrik

Prep time: 12 Minutes

Turkish coffee is relatively easy to make. All you need is some fine ground coffee, a method of measuring and boiling water (we used a moka pot base), and a little patience!

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  • Grind to a fine ground, 2 teaspoons of coffee
  • Measure 8 ounces a filtered water
  • Combine the coffee and the water in a small pot and place on a medium-low heat. Cover.
  • After 4-5 minutes, remove from heat and remove any surface foam
  • Add sugar or sweetener, if any
  • Continue to heat and remove once it begins to boil
  • Allow the coffee grounds to settle for a few minutes
  • Pour and allow another minute for coffee to settle
  • Enjoy!

Conclusion

In conclusion, Turkish coffee is a traditional and beloved beverage that has been enjoyed for centuries throughout Turkey and the Middle East. It is a unique coffee preparation method that involves brewing finely ground coffee beans in a special pot called a cezve, with sugar and water. Turkish coffee is known for its strong flavor, thick consistency, and rich aroma.

Turkish coffee has not only been an important cultural tradition, but also plays a significant role in social gatherings and hospitality. It is often served with sweets, dates, or other snacks, and the preparation and serving of Turkish coffee is considered an art form in many communities.

Whether enjoyed for its taste, cultural significance, or social value, Turkish coffee remains a popular beverage around the world. Its unique preparation and rich history make it a fascinating topic for coffee lovers and cultural enthusiasts alike.

Do you love sweet coffee? Like brown sugar? Cinnamon? Well then this Mexican coffee recipe is for you. It’s a sweet and tasty alternative that is bound to switch things up if looking for something new. It also happens to be a great recipe if serving friends or family, as you can batch make it to scale how ever many people needed.

It’s full of interesting flavors, sweet, and a great treat for brunch or after dinner.

In this article, I’ll go over the ingredients and processes needed to make this coffee. I also made a video that shows the process, so feel free to use this article and the video together to make things easier.

What Is Mexican Coffee?

Mexican coffee is a traditional coffee beverage that uses dark roast coffee, cinnamon and either piloncillo or brown sugar. For those curious, piloncillo is an unrefined whole cane sugar.

Mexican coffee is traditionally known as Cafe de’ Olla. It is traditionally made in a clay pot, and the drink is typically served in mugs made of the same type of clay for it’s famous taste. Since we don’t have that, I have a method down below that gets us pretty close.

What Is In Mexican Coffee?

Mexican coffee is made with:

  • Dark roast coffee
  • Brown sugar or piloncillo
  • Cinammon sticks

Regarding the coffee beans you use, any dark roast is going to work well with this drink. I like Peet’s Major Dickason’s dark roast, but anything will do so long as it isn’t flavored already.

Dark roast coffee is known to be less acidic and well balanced. Since we’re using a steeping method to brew the coffee in a saucepan, it is similar to making French press coffee. That is why I would use medium to medium-coarse coffee. It keeps the surface area of the coffee down, which will help stave off bitterness and over-extraction.

Regarding the piloncillo, you can use any unrefined sugar you may have in the cabinet. I had brown sugar, and it still works well.

The cinnamon works best as sticks so avoid over powering the coffee. It’s just a hint of the flavor that makes it work well together.

If you’re a coffee drinker that likes to use milk, you can add a splash. I think the sweetness of the sugar more than makes up for the typical kick, and don’t feel it’s necessary.

How To Make Mexican Coffee Step By Step:

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 9-10 ounces of water
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar or piloncillo
  • 1 Tbsp dark roast coffee

Instructions

If grinding whole bean coffee, do it first as it takes longer than the water takes to boil. Use a medium-coarse setting.

  • Start by measuring out 9-10 ounces of filtered water and place it into a saucepan on high heat.
  • While the water heats to a boil, measure out 2 Tbsp of brown sugar or piloncillo.
  • Break a cinnamon stick in half.
  • Once the water is boiling add the brown sugar, and add 1/2 cinnamon stick.
  • Stir the water until the brown sugar is fully dissolved.
  • Add 1 Tbsp of dark roast coffee. Stir well. Remove from heat.
  • Cover the saucepan and set a timer between 4-10 minutes. The longer the timer, the stronger the coffee will be. I like it somewhere at 4-5 minutes.
  • Pour the saucepan through a cheesecloth or a coffee filter into your mug.
  • Enjoy!

Conclusion

This method of brewing coffee is easy to do and can be done with any type of coffee, making it a versatile option for coffee lovers.

The combination of cinnamon and brown sugar or piloncillo creates a unique flavor profile that is both sweet and spicy, with hints of caramel and earthy undertones. The warm and comforting aroma of cinnamon makes Mexican coffee an ideal choice for a cozy morning or a cold winter day.

Overall, Mexican coffee is a great way to switch up your coffee routine and try something new. With just a few ingredients and a little bit of time, you can enjoy a delicious and flavorful cup of coffee that will warm you up and brighten your day.

For many, mornings begin with the rich aroma of coffee. While there are numerous methods to brew, instant coffee remains a favorite for its quick and straightforward approach. If you want to make the perfect cup of instant coffee, follow these steps.

Understanding Instant Coffee

Instant coffee is manufactured from brewed coffee that has been freeze-dried or spray-dried. Soluble coffee crystals quickly dissolve in hot water, making it a convenient choice for many.

Steps to a Perfect Cup

  1. Measure Your Coffee: Typically, a teaspoon of instant coffee granules is sufficient for a standard cup, but adjusts to your taste.
  2. Choose Your Base: While hot water is the classic choice, for a richer and creamier texture, consider using hot milk instead. Aim for about six fluid ounces per serving.
  3. Stir and Relax: Ensure all the coffee granules have dissolved entirely in the liquid. Give it a good stir, then take a moment to savor the aroma before you sip.

Elevate Your Instant Coffee Experience

  • Flavor Boosters: Enhance your coffee by adding a touch of cinnamon, cocoa, or even a drop of vanilla extract. These can introduce new dimensions to your cup.
  • Cold Delights: On warmer days, consider making an iced version. Prepare a strong concentration with hot water, add your preferred sweetener, and pour over ice. Top up with cold milk or water.
  • Dessert Companion: The robust flavor of instant coffee can be a great addition to desserts. Incorporate it into cakes, mousses, or even as a sprinkle on top of ice cream.

Wrap-Up

Instant coffee, with its simplicity, has a charm that resonates with many. Following these guidelines and adding your personal touch, you can transform it into a delightful beverage that stands tall alongside other brewing methods.

Hanging in Flushing Queens during my high school years, it was only a matter of time before my friend asked if I wanted to try boba tea. “What is boba tea?” I asked, and they bought me one. Boba tea is a Taiwanese tea drink that contains tea, some variation of milk, sweetener, and tapioca balls which give boba tea its unique look and taste. My first foray into bubble tea was incredible! I never experienced anything like it before, and I was impressed with the taste.

Numi Jasmine Green Tea

How To Make Boba Tea

Ingredients:

1 cup dried tapioca pearls (boba)

1 1/2 tablespoons of honey

Enough water to cover the pearls in a pan

Steps:

1: Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan

2: Add the dried tapioca pearls, stir

3: Boil the tapiocas for 2-3 minutes / until they begin to float

4: Bring the flame down to a medium heat. Cook for 2-3 minutes until they are tender.

Tip: Don’t drain until you’re ready to use in your boba tea! The tapiocas will harden if left out of the water.

How To Make Boba Tea (AKA Bubble Tea)

Plain Boba Tea:

1: Brew the tea, in this example we’re using English Breakfast Black Tea.

2: Add as much ice as you like!

3: Add honey

4: Drain the tapioca pearls, add to the drink

5: Add your choice of milk

6: Enjoy!

A lot of times these drinks are served with thick straws so make sure you pick some up!

Fruit Boba Tea:

1 cup of brewed tea of choice. Jasmine or black tea recommended.

1 cup of fresh fruit chunked

1 cup of milk (your choice)

Use as much as ice you like!

Because Thai bubble tea is diluted with milk and ice, use a strong flavored tea. Jasmine or black tea are perfect examples as they are robust and will keep their flavor from getting lost.

Where To Buy Tapioca Pearls

Before we can make bubble tea, we’ll need tapioca pearls! You can pick them up at most Asian food markets or Amazon.

How To Cook Tapioca Pearls

Tapioca pearls are balls of starch made from the root of the cassava plant. Tapioca pearls are used in bubble tea to add texture to bubble tea. Make sure to cook only what you will use in the recipe! Tapioca pearls tend to stiffen up after draining from cooking!

We used Tapioca Pearls that are black sugar flavored. The key is that these are easy to cook with and only take about 5 minutes.

What Is Crystal Boba?

As we just discussed, boba tea comes in many varieties, one called crystal boba. What is it, you might ask? Crystal boba is named for its translucent appearance and is a gelatin-esque pearl made from the konjac plant, which is a Southeast Asian plant also known as devil’s tongue. Konjac plays an important role in Asian medicine and has numerous health claims, including detoxification, and is used in weight loss supplements.

Crystal Boba vs Boba

Regular boba pearls are made from the tapioca plant’s root, which gives the pearls their starchy yet gelatinous texture. Crystal boba is made from the konjac plant and similarly from the root, giving it a similar texture to regular boba.

Wrapping Up Making Boba Tea at Home

You’ve probably seen bubble tea shops, or maybe you’ve even tried it at Starbucks (they’re testing bubble tea recipes now!). Strawberry, black tea, jasmine, mango, and melon don’t scratch the surface! There are literally hundreds of flavors and variations available. We hope you found this article helpful in explaining how to make boba tea/bubble tea is. Also, we hope you try the recipes out for yourself! Thanks for reading.
