There are a few key benefits to cold brew coffee. First, it has a smoother and less acidic taste than regular coffee, as the cold water extraction process is gentler on the beans and reduces the amount of acidity in the final product. This makes it a great option for those who find regular coffee to be too acidic or harsh.
Second, cold brew coffee is very versatile. It can be served hot or cold, making it a great option for all seasons. It can also be mixed with a variety of ingredients, such as milk, cream, syrup, and even alcohol, to create a wide range of flavored drinks.

What Is The Best Coffee Bean For Cold Brew?
Before we dive in we need some coffee to get started! We recommend a medium-dark roast as they are less acidic after 12-24 hours of steeping, and if you’re purchasing new coffee to always buy whole beans. For this, we like Peet’s Kenya Auction Lot because it is complex, low acidity, sweet and super smooth.
How Much Caffeine Is There In Cold Brew?
The exact caffeine content of cold brew can vary widely depending on the specific coffee and brewing method used, but as a general rule of thumb, a typical 16-ounce (475-milliliter) serving of cold brew coffee can contain anywhere from 150 to 300 milligrams of caffeine. However, it’s important to keep in mind that individual tolerance to caffeine can vary widely
Bodum Cold Brew Ratio
The Bodum cold brew coffee maker can use just about anything but it’s important to use a coarsely ground bean for maximum coffee bean flavor extraction. This will minimize the surface area of the coffee, which is a good thing since it will brew for 12-24 hours. Too much surface area, or too fine of a grind will result in a bitter and overly strong flavor.
Start with your preferred bean and measure out 1 cup. 1 cup = ~ 10 cups of coffee.
A Burr coffee grinder is the preferred method of grinding since you have control over the sizing of the grind. But if you’re using an electric chop grinder like the Kitchen Aide coffee grinder, it works just as good. Just be sure to use short bursts. The Kitchen Aide already has measurement lines embedded in grind cup. I have a quick read on this grinder over here: Best Budget Coffee Grinder and the Burr vs Blade Coffee Grinder articles.
Grind the coffee in short bursts 2-5 seconds until all the beans are broken.
Bodum Bean Cold Brew Coffee Maker
Measure 4 cups of water and place in the Bodum bean cold brew coffee maker. I marked mind with a sharpie so I no longer need to measure the water. I just fill it to that at minimum, but I always have to remember to put the water inĀ before I put the coffee in to keep the correct ratio.
The Bodum bean coffee maker looks like a large french press made of plastic. Add the coffee and watch the magic as the coffee mixes with the water, and put the plunger top on. Sometimes the coffee sits above the water line for a while before it settles down, but I press the plunger down a little to speed the process.
Place in the fridge for 12-24 hours.
How Long To Steep Cold Brew?
The steeping process typically takes between 10-24 hours before the cold brew concentrate is ready. The longer it steeps the stronger it will be, however if you leave it beyond 24 hours with the plunger raised the coffee will become more and more bitter.
How Long Does Cold Brew Last?
Cold brew concentrate is good for about 7-10 days if kept refrigerated. Always be sure to cover your coffee if storing in the fridge in an air tight container.
Bodum Cleaning Brush
Quick cleaning tip:
A good coffee cleaning brush is useful when trying to clean the mesh. We recommend this small brush on Amazon.
Cold Brew Too Strong?
Sometimes cold brew concentrate can be a bit hard on the digestive system so add some ice or filtered water to dilute the beverage. You can also pour a shot of cold brew concentrate and use more milk for a cold brew latte. Interested to learn more? Check out our recipe!
